This is one of the Ludwig Rocker snares. These drums
actually sound pretty good and you can pick them up for a song...usually
under $100.00 This is actually a wood drum with a chrome wrap on
it. This drum is now a Black Oyster Pearl Rocker. I decided to
re-wrap it. It was my first re-wrap. The original chrome wrap
on these is not glued all of the way around. Ludwig only glued them
where the wrap overlaps at the seam. I believe the bowtie lugs had
the same hole spacing so if you want to try to dress one of these up with
nice lugs you can. |

This is a 6.5x14" 1980 COB (chrome over brass)
Supraphonic in excellent condition. This baby really shines.
The story goes that Ludwig had re-issued the Black Beauties in 1980 and
had extra brass shells so they decided to sell some COB Supras. If
you look close above the muffler you can just make out the 'BR' stamp for
'Brass'. |

This 6.5x14" Supraphonic is supposed to be lacquered
brass. Above the muffler knob is stamped 'B'. I think it is
probably more likely bronze. I have a 90's Bronze Supra and the
color of the two drums is identical. The only difference is that the
90's drum is stamped with 'BZ' by the muffler. If anyone knows if
'B' meant brass or 'Bronze' please email me. In the meantime,
I'll pretend its brass and enjoy the beautiful tone that only a brass
shell can produce. |
