Ludwig Drum Catalogs on CD-Rom

Hello everyone.  I'm pleased to announce the grand opening of our web store.  If you're interested in Ludwig catalogs on CD-Rom, catalog reprints, or other items

please click this link for our web store.

1922

The 1922 Catalog didn't have a list of finishes so here is the price list.  Notice the price of the gold plated metal snare drums.

1928

1932
1933
1959 Mystery catalog.  I'm missing the front and back cover.  This, I believe, is a late 50's WFL catalog...maybe 1959.  If you have this catalog, please contact me and let me know for sure.
1960

Check out the rare Oyster Pink Pearl!

Also notice that it's 'Oyster Black Pearl' not Black Oyster Pearl or BOP as we all say.

1962

'Sparkling Pink Champagne' and 'Galaxy' are the new colors for this year.

1964

What!...No new colors.

1967

'Sparkling Burgundy Pearl' is available this year but 'Galaxy' was dropped (actually 1965 was the last year for it).

1971

Check out the psychedelic colors.  Also 'Black Panther', which, I'm told, is a leatherette material applied as a drum wrap.

1971

(Standard)

This was the Ludwig 'Standard' catalog and colors.  A budget line of drums that has its own following.  I am told the same shells were used but that the lugs were different.  The sound is supposed to be just as good as their more expensive cousins.

1973

Though the sparkles and the oysters and still popular, a movement has begun towards wood finishes.  And what better way to show the beauty of a wood finish than by applying a plastic laminate of a wood finish to your all maple drums.
1975

Ah, 1975...the year I graduated high school.  I still hadn't graduated to a professional kit yet though...and was still playing on a red sparkle Japanese kit (probably 'Star').

An editorial comment on Black and White.

I love White Marine Pearl but I never understood covering drums in just 'White' or just 'Black' (such as the Cortex) wraps.  With all of the really interesting laminates available why would anyone want plain old black or white.  The only thing that the white is good for (in my opinion) is to use as a canvas if your planning on spray painting a really wild scene, like the drums used by Ian Paice of 'Deep Purple' or Billy Idols drummer on the 'Rebel Yell' tour.  Don't get me wrong, I have both black and white drums in my collection but when I look at them I don't get the same warm fuzzy feeling that I get from 'Blue Sparkle' or 'Red Glass Glitter'.

1980

Wow, it must have been a banner year at Ludwig with 28 different colored finishes being offered.  That movement for natural wood (laminate) finishes was at its peak.
